Prestige Displays Pty Ltd
As a result of offering in house design and manufacturing along with projects received from design houses and architectural firms the business now provided corporate displays, neon signage and major building graphics. To compliment these services a sales force was added which increased the POS and exhibit work.
Major projects for the NSW Government and Major exhibitions saw the company build models for display of the Sydney Opera House for NSW Government representation in China and a 1 to 1 scale representation of the cockpit of the Space Shuttle as the entry theme to a Centrepoint tower exhibition.
Following the setback from a factory complex fire which also destroyed our facility while operating at full production. To maintain our clients and contracts and meet our committments, a shopfitting business was purchased and new staff and skills were added to the sign and display business. The company added shopfitting and with the work from Expo 88 and the country’s bi centennial celebrations. Growing further into 90’s employing a staff of 65+ and doing D&C projects for government and major corporations specialising in turn key solutions for exhibits, shopfitting, commerical showroom and all signage requirements. “The recession we had to have” (Treasurer, P. Keating Nov 1990)
During this period of change from a booming economy in the late 80’s to recession and high interest rates in the early 90’s there was a great fallout in the building industry. Prestige Displays P/L was closed and in-house manufacturing had ceased. A renewed focus was now on design and project management using the skills learned from previous businesses. The methodology of the change is still in place with the addition of newly learned skills in Digital signage and Architectural film and print applications.
Abile Design Pty Ltd / DDM Services Pty Ltd (Design, Display and Management Services Pty Ltd)
Bruce Alaimo formed a company with leading retail designer, Dragan Nikolovski and the 2 set about to bring HMV (London) to Australia with the first store to be designed and built in the Mid City centre in Sydney. They formed a new company, Abile Design Pty Ltd for the venture and provided a turnkey design and Construct package for the client which included an innovative redesign of HMV’s retail image going from vinyl and tape cassettes to CD’s. The flagship store and 4 others were completed on time and on budget in the overall project.
During and on completion of the HMV work a large number of exhibit projects were won which changed the direction of Bruce’s efforts back into Exhibition and display work and out of retail design and project management. Abile Design Pty Ltd was closed and a new company, DDM Services Pty Ltd, was formed to work on these projects. Among notable project during this period were HMV Australia, DFS (Duty Free Shoppers), Boral, Orica, Pacific Brands, NCR and many more top 500 companies.
